According to Google The Polish zloty started the new year with a huge crash. On Monday evening, the euro was worth PLN 5.40, the dollar was PLN 4.83, and the Swiss franc was PLN 5.80. The Polish currency was not so weak even after the start of the war in Ukraine. No wonder it went viral on social media.

Minister of Finance Andrzej Domanski commented on this issue. “Relax. This zloty rate that is causing panic is 'fake' (data source error). Markets in Asia will open soon and the situation will return to normal,” the politician wrote on the X website on Monday evening.

On Tuesday The Ministry of Finance has officially appealed to Google Polska to provide information on the reasons for Monday's false publication regarding the zloty exchange rate and what actions it will take to prevent similar situations in the future.

Confusion over the zloty exchange rate. There is a reaction from Google Poland

Google Polska sent a message to the Money.pl portal explaining the confusion surrounding Monday's currency quotes on its platform. “Search functions, such as displaying currency exchange rates, are based on data from external sources. If inaccuracies are found, we contact the data providers to correct the errors as soon as possible,” the statement said.

Earlier, the spokesperson of the National Bank of Poland commented on the mentioned issue. “Due to the New Year's commotion about fictitious PLN exchange rates on the Google platform, we remind you that confirmed and fully reliable PLN exchange rates are published on the NBP website. Charts provided by Google are not always accurate and representative. Reality and the portal itself are not responsible for their correctness. “Google, as we can officially read, does not verify the collected public data. Today's PLN/EUR exchange rate is 4.34. We encourage you to use some exchange rate data on the NBP website,” the statement said.
