Wayne Rooney has been sacked as Birmingham City manager. The former England international's side have managed just two wins in 15 games since October and have fallen from sixth to 20th in the Championship – the second English league.
Birmingham City was taken over in the summer of 2023 by the company owned by American businessman Tom Wagner, who fired popular coach John Eustace. Rooney's predecessor saved the club from relegation in the 2022/23 season.

“Despite our best efforts, the results did not live up to the expectations that were clearly set out from the outset. The board therefore believes that a change of coaching staff is in the best interests of the football club,” Birmingham City said in a statement.
On Monday, Birmingham City, whose player is the representative of Poland, Christian Bielik, lost 0:3 against Leeds United. After the match, fans called for the dismissal of Rooney, who previously worked for American DC United and Derby County.
