After eight years, the program “Hala Odlotów” created by Martina Harland and Katarzyna Janowska returned to Polish television. Since 2012, it has been broadcasting on TVP Kultura. The talk show touched on cultural, social and psychological topics. It discussed events that were currently causing emotion and controversy.
The reactivation of the program is one of the changes that occurred as a result Taking over public media by the new government.
“Culture has become a weapon of political struggle”
In the New Year, the presenter of the program, Katažina Yanovska (also a Oneti journalist), greeted the audience and talked about the political situation.
– Eight years ago, I hosted the last edition of the program “Hala Odlotów”. A program dedicated to culture, which aired on TVP Kultura. Then I left public media because culture became a weapon of political and ideological struggle. Censorship appeared in journalistic programs, unpleasant films were placed on the shelves, for example, Pavlikovsky's “Ida” was subjected to censorship. Artists who opposed or simply supported free culture were blacklisted in public media or refused to appear in public media themselves. They were removed from the cast of films and series, he began.
Then he recalled the situation that happened after Olga Tokarchuk received the Nobel Prize. – It is hard to imagine, but TVP did not broadcast Olga Tokarchuk's Nobel speech. The Minister of Culture admitted that he had not read his books, and the vision of Poland that emerged from his novels was criticized by right-wing politicians. I hope with that behind us that today we open a new chapter in culture and public media. Today I am convinced that the media does not belong to the politicians, the media belongs to the citizens. That is why today I have invited artists and cultural managers, most of whom have not been here in recent years, to talk about the place of culture in society, the role of culture, what artists expect from public media and what responsibility they feel towards culture. He emphasized.
The guests in the first episode of the updated “Departure Hall” were: Agnieszka Holland and Andrzej Severin.
