The situation in the goal of the Polish national team was not the best
After years of neglect in training, the situation among goalkeepers is such that the fate of the Polish national team rests on the shoulders of the Polished American John Murray, who was brought in by KH Sanok ten years ago. Popular 37-year-old “Jasiu Murarci” will go to Ostrava for the Elite World Championship. At last year's Division IA World Cup in Nottingham, where the Poles were fighting for a return to the top flight, when the need arose to relieve Murray, 22-year-old Maciej Miarka stepped in, having made just four league appearances all season! Fortunately, Miarka now plays much more often in the colors of JKS GKS Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
1. The hero of the Polish Cup final was full of fear. “There were prayers of supplication”
Tomasz Fuczyk and GKS Tychy won the Polish Cup. “You don't know when the fairy tale will end”
PZHL wants to increase the competition in the goalkeeping positions, which is why it has chosen to Polish Fucic, who will turn 30 in March. Tomas is playing in the Polish league for the sixth season. First in 2016-2018, he defended the colors of GKS JKH Jastrzębie-Zdrój, in 2019 he moved to Lotos PHK Gdańsk for a year, but in 2021 he took the shirt of GKS Tychy, with whom he won the title. Polish Cup on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
– You never know when the fairy tale that is a hockey player's career will end, so you have to enjoy moments like winning the Polish Cup. I'm very happy that my name is also associated with such success as the tenth Polish Cup for GKS Tychy, it's very nice – Fucik told Polsat Sport.
Whether in the league or in the final tournament of the Polish championship, he showed that his strength is in controlling his nerves, especially when his team is struggling.
– I always try to keep cool and not to think that it is difficult, that the opponent is pushing – notes Futsik.
Tomasz Fuczyk about plans to represent Poland
When asked about his expectations before the start of the Elite World Cup, in which Poland will play its matches very close to our country in Ostrava, he smiled from ear to ear.
– I try to keep both feet on the ground, I don't want to sound strange, but the thing about hockey is that you don't know what will happen tomorrow. First of all, you have to be healthy to be able to go to the World Cup. The second is that you have to present the right level and it changes very quickly. That is why I am not sure that I will go to the World Cup. Now I try to do my best work for GKS Tychy and see what happens. He doesn't want to put pressure on himself. If there is a result, the decision will still be in the hands of the coach of the national team, Robert Calaberi, and I respect that, explained Fucik.
Fucik made his debut in the Polish national team in an unofficial IIHF match
On December 15 of last year, Tomasz made his debut in the Polish national team at the Austrian Cup tournament held under the auspices of the IIHF World Authority. In the final, the white-reds lost 0:1 to the hosts in Klagenfurt, but Fuchik was chosen as the best player of our team.
– I don't officially have Polish citizenship yet, although everything is on the right track, sorry, I mean on the right track. I'm even happier that now I got the chance to debut in the Polish national team, that I could meet the boys, learn how to work as a team and play a very good match, at a high level, at a higher level than the Polish level. League. It was a challenge and another experience for me, says Tomas Fucic.
Don't the family and relatives of Tomáš Fuchík treat him as a traitor?
Wouldn't his family and friends in the Czech Republic see his plans to change the national colors as a betrayal?
– No one looks at it that way. You must be right, the competition in the Czech Republic is completely different, I wouldn't have a chance to play in the national team. I know where my place is, I've always known that I'm not a “big name”, I'm a completely ordinary guy who found his place in Poland. Maybe I didn't expect it at the beginning of my career, but here I found a place where I feel good, here I found a wife with whom I feel good, and that's how my life has developed, and I'm very grateful. for that. Therefore, I feel a debt of gratitude to Poland for giving me such an opportunity to continue my career – says the goalkeeper of GKS Tychy.
– How does my family feel about this? cool! Everyone is happy about it. Czechs are not as nationalist and patriotic as Poles. In the Czech Republic, they don't write much about changing my national colors. This is not the number one topic, no one cares about it, and even if it were, it wouldn't bother me – emphasizes Tomas Fucic.
One of the leaders of GKS Tychy, who also plays in the national team – forward Philip Komorsky, clearly responded to Fuchik's debut in the red and white team.
– To tell the truth, I only learned that Tomek would join us during the December tournament. I am very happy that the goal line will be so strong, Komorski told us.
