“Rzeczpospolita” disseminated information about possible changes in the Płock concern. As the newspaper recalls, Elżbieta Bienkowska was the Minister of Regional Development, and then the Head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development and Vice Prime Minister. In 2014–2019, he served as the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services.
“Soon, he may occupy another important position. According to our information, he is the most serious candidate for the position of the president of Orlen,” we read.
Orlen Group operates refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, retail operations in Central Europe, mining operations in Poland, Norway, Canada and Pakistan, and is also involved in energy production, including distribution of renewable energy sources and natural gas. As part of building a multi-energy concern, the company completed the acquisitions of Energa, Grupa Lotos and PGNiG. Its consolidated sales reached PLN 277.5 billion last year. The company has been listed on the WSE since 1999 and is included in the WIG20 index.
What about Obajtek?
State Property Minister Boris Budka, who media reports say oversees changes at state-owned companies, recently said he expects the resignation of Orléans president Daniel Obateki.
– President Obatek clearly said that he is a representative of a specific political environment, he feels connected to it, therefore, in any case, while appreciating this sincerity, I expect that appropriate steps will be taken very quickly, i.e. resignationBecause it seems that this is an obvious step after these statements, said the head of MAP.
In fact, in April of last year, Obatek said that if there was a change of power in Poland, he would resign.
– I'll go myself, to be honest, you won't even need to thank me. I have my honor and dignity, said the president of Orléans in an interview given to RMF FM.
Orlen convened an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on February 6. According to “Dziennik Gazeta Prauna”, Obatek may be dismissed that day, although the president and the entire governing council may resign earlier. Daniel Obateki has been the president of Orléans since 2018. The company's net profit in the third quarter of 2023 amounted to almost PLN 3.46 billion, compared to PLN 14.6 billion in the previous year.
