Unfortunately, they are doing other, worse things, to the detriment of animals, our health, and the future of the planet. Can we resist it? Paulina Januszewska talks to Morgan Janowicz from the Green Rev Institute about this.

Remember how Krzysztof Bosak (then) said on Twitter in 2019 that fish is not meat and vegans beat Catholics in Modlin and Wroclaw? If not, you're missing out, but – when you read modern media reports about the growing number of vegans – you might get the impression that a plant-based diet has really become fashionable and vegans abound. However, the thing about trends is that they are often artificially created by the press and change quickly. Meanwhile, the world of science makes it clear that veganism is one of the saviors of a sinking, or rather burning, planet.

Since the beginning of the year is full of resolutions, why not try a plant-based diet instead of buying a gym membership? It is also beneficial for health. I'm just suggesting, but the opportunity is good because January is the month in which Veganuary takes place for the 10th time, a campaign by a British non-profit organization that encourages people to give up meat and dairy products. The initiators of the project show simple recipes for vegan dishes and other useful cooking tips. However, changing our habits will not be enough to stop the food system from being based on the mass killing of animals.

But how can we do that when we, the consumers and citizens, face the billionaires who produce the meat, dairy products and eggs who control the market and the decision makers? Pressure on politicians. Maybe. For example, “within the 2024 budget, the German federal government will allocate a total of 38 million euros for the promotion of alternative sources of proteins and the transition to sustainable agriculture” – I read in the text of ngo.pl.

Morgan Janowicz of the Green Rev Institute, a vegan think tank, told me about subsequent cities in the Netherlands that, after Haarlem, decided to ban meat advertising in public places. Why is this not possible in Poland? Will Donald Tusk's government appoint an animal rights ombudsman? What are the predictions for meat consumption in the coming years? You will learn everything from our conversation.

There is no future without equality

What does climate have to do with human rights? More than you think. We cannot save the planet by remaining stuck in patriarchy and capitalism. Therefore, there will be no green transformation without justice, sisterhood, rainbows and feminism. How is it done in practice? I will talk about this with invited guests and guests who know that changes will not be easy, but possible.
