Aryna Sabalenka made it to the finals of the Brisbane WTA tournament. One of the biggest rivals of Iga Svichtek defeated the former leader of the WTA ranking – Victoria Azarenka 6:2, 6:4 in the semi-finals.
Sabalenka set the conditions on the court from the beginning. The second-ranked player in the world ranking broke his opponent for the first time in the fourth game of the first set. Azarenka tried to find an answer to her opponent's good game, but the 25-year-old player proved too strong for her. At the end of this part of the match, Sabalenka once again won the service game of the former number one racket of the world, thereby ensuring the triumph in the first part of the match (6:2).
1. Świątek commented on the victory. “The game was not easy because of the loud fans”
The next part of the competition was more equal. Both players successfully defended their serves for long periods. The situation changed only in the tenth game. That's when Sabalenka managed to break her opponent for the third time in this match. Thus, the second champion of the WTA ranking won the game 6:4.
Thanks to this victory, Sabalenka reached the finals of the WTA tournament in Brisbane. Elena Rybakina will be her opponent in the next match. The Kazakh athlete defeated Linda Noskova in the semi-finals.
