The Australian mixed breed is distinguished by excellent efficiency. Hunter and Ebden won all three matches without dropping a set. On the other hand, the Siegemund/Marterer pair will be released for the first time. Although the former played one match against Alexander Zverev (winners against Greeks Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakar), for Marterer this will be his debut in this edition of the United Cup.

At the United Cup, 18 teams were divided into six groups of three teams. Groups A (with Poland), C and E played in Perth, the rest were in Sydney. The group winners advanced to the quarter-finals, as did one of the best runners-up in either city.
Australians took first place in Group C, confidently defeating Serbia 3-0 in the quarter-finals. Germany, on the other hand, took second place in Group D (behind France) and defeated Greece 2:1 in the quarterfinals.
