DoRzeczy.pl: A lot of material has appeared in the mainstream media talking about the need for Poland to join the Eurozone. Are these types of media releases part of a wider campaign? Will there be pressure on Poland to join the Eurozone?
Rysard Zarnetsky: It is no coincidence that two leading newspapers associated with this media establishment in Poland publish articles on the same day on their front pages about the need for Poland to join the Eurozone. I've been in this world too long to consider it a coincidence. However, this is due to the fact that the formations in the Tusk government fulfill their earlier, pre-election promises and promises to external partners, if this is the result of business lobbying in Poland, especially exporters, who believe that they will. Gain by joining Euroland? Even if the country loses, we don't know. Maybe it's both, and the idea is to familiarize Polish public opinion with the topic so that it can more easily overcome potential opposition in the future.
It is worth noting that this government is quite cautious when it comes to solving various issues that the public feels opposed to. An example would be CPK. As soon as it was reported that 2/3 of the Poles were in favor of continuing the CPK project, the rhetoric immediately changed, people began to say that “we are considering this project”, while earlier there was talk of closing it. Now it is about reducing it, but it is not difficult, no. Tusk should take public opinion into account more than during the PO-PSL government in 2007-2015. I think it is similar here.
Will the Eurozone try to join Poland?
Media softens public opinion. The Eurozone has shown some conservatism and reluctance to accept new members, with Croatia being the last country to do so. However, Croatia is a country that, 30 years after gaining independent statehood, first pegged the kuna to the German mark and then, for two decades, to the euro. It was not difficult for Euroland. In the case of such a large country as Poland, this is a difficult operation. However, one can imagine that there is a desire to keep Poland on standby. As soon as there is political will and favorable conditions for this side, maybe they will implement this project.
