“In light of the devastating trench warfare and the disgraceful airstrikes on the civilian population of Ukraine, I look at our actions with concern and ask myself whether our support is sufficient,” said former German President Joachim Gauck in an interview with Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Former President of Germany: I don't understand

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz still Refuses to send Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, the German equivalent of Britain's Storm Shadow, for fear they would be used to attack the Crimean bridgehead. Berlin is resisting pressure from the UK and Ukraine to supply the missiles, despite assurances from London that they will only be fired at targets approved by Germany.

The Taurus is one of the most advanced missiles available to the Air Force. This weapon can find a target from a great height and distance and destroy, for example, bunker systems.

– I don't know anything about military issues, but I talked to people who have the necessary military knowledge. After these negotiations, I no longer understand why we are hesitating to supply Ukraine with these weapons and other ammunition, Joachim Gauck said in an interview with the newspaper Bild am Sonntag. – We have to do it using everything we have, without any “buts”. Because Russia's victory will threaten the security of other European countries in the future, he added.

– Chancellor Scholz should ask himself from time to time if he is falling short of his stated goal of doing everything he can to prevent a Russian victory and a “peaceful” dictatorship. It is irritating when the government's hesitancy not only reduces the chances of Ukraine's victory, but also increases the threat to the entire free world, said the former president of the Federal Republic of Germany.
