The American coach does not hide that the Polish woman's game has impressed him for a long time, but only watching her up close allows a true assessment of her skills. This year, Boynton was able to take part in the Polish Boxing Championship during the United Cup for the second time in a row and admire the tennis of the 22-year-old WTA ranking leader.
“Last year I saw him live on the court for the first time, and afterwards I told everyone, 'If you have kids and you love tennis, you should buy tickets, get the best seat, maybe right on the court, and watch Iga play. “This experience really opened my eyes,” Boynton admitted, as quoted by United Cup organizers.
As he emphasized, thanks to this he was able to see not only the game of switchtech up close, but also to see what a cohesive team Polish tennis players are. “It's amazing how they bond and support each other selflessly,” she added.
1. Alexander Zverev spoke after the victory against the Poles. Beautiful words
In the previous edition, the white-red team was eliminated in the semi-finals after losing to the USA. They were close to the final triumph this year, but lost 1:2 to Germany in the final. Schwichtek, however, hit a five-game hitting streak, which was the team's strongest point.
Boynton made no secret of the fact that he was impressed by several elements of her tennis that he was able to observe up close.
“First of all, his athleticism. Second, his hitting power. Next, his intensity and the fact that he plays every point the same way. Laser strength and precision,” Hurkac's coach explained.
“There were some backhand hits that made me think, 'Oh my God.' Anyone who loves tennis, who is thinking about playing tennis: “You have to see it live,” he added.
Boynton admitted that Schwichtek and his protégé have a lot of respect and empathy for each other, and closely observing the activities of the entire staff of the leader of the tennis classification is also very instructive.
“We got to meet the whole Iga team last year. They're great people, we had a great time, it was a lot of fun. And Iga and Hubby get along really well,” Boynton said, adding that this year was even better. Because … more wins.
The coach assessed that participation in the United Cup, but also the opportunity to train regularly on non-match days and to be in a great atmosphere with a group of compatriots is a good way to prepare for the first serious test of the new season, which will be the Grand Slam Australian Open, which will start on Sunday.
“We had free time, so we worked to get fluidity and dynamics in the game. Those free days between matches are also used to polish the old elements of the game, but also to see how something new works that you just try. We present to you. It's a very useful time.” – concluded Boynton.
