“Gazeta Wyborcza” removed controversial text by Marcin Kącki from Wyborcza.pl website (screen: YouTube/Dom Literatury)
The editors of “Gazeta Wyborcza” apologized for publishing Marcin Katzki's text: “My journalism – alcohol, failed therapy, fiercely loved women, neglected daughters and fear of dawn”. The author described inappropriate behavior towards women, including attempts at sexual assault. The editors removed the text from the Wyborcza.pl website. Marcin Katski was fired and released from working with journalists.
Marcin Kącki's text was published on Friday. “Newsweek Polska” journalist Karolina Rogaska made a comment about this on Facebook on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. He informed that he was one of Kaki's victims.
“Wyborcza”: “This edition caused damage”
“Enough, I'm tired of the cult of torture. The fact that people read Ketsky's text and applaud it without thinking about dozens of victims,” Rogaska wrote on Facebook.
And he continued: “Marcin, if you were so honest in your text, why didn't you write directly what you would do to me and the other girls? Why didn't you write that you would treat my repeated nos as if they didn't. There, why didn't you tell me that “Give it up now” and in 30 years you won't be so pretentious and pervert when you want, when you want”? My sheer terror? Disgusting behavior.”
“Unfortunately, after some time we realize that this publication has harmed people who have become its heroes without their will. One of them is Karolina Rogaska, who published an extensive note on this matter on Facebook on Saturday,” we read. The statement published yesterday was published on the Wyborcza.pl website.
Alexandra Sobchak: “Katsky hid information”
– When we decided to publish Marcin Kącki's text, we made sure that it described cases from the distant past that could be an important voice in the debate about sexual violence against women – says Aleksandra Sobchak, deputy editor-in-chief of Gazeta Wyborcza. .
– The reporter hid from us the information that the Institute of Reporting was conducting an investigation on this issue and was fired. Therefore, we decided to suspend Marcin Ketski and remove him from working with the authors. We are conducting an internal investigation in the editorial office, he adds.
Yesterday we described this case in detail – including Katski's opinion, who defends himself by saying that some editors of “Vibortsa” read the text and did not notice the mistakes. Yesterday, the Foundation of the Reportage Institute responded to Katzki's statement in “Presserwis”: “Based on Marcin Kacki's statement in “Presserwis”, we inform you that Mariusz Szczygiel did not intend to write and publish any text in “Gazeta Wyborcza”. It was dedicated to contemporary reporting, he was not asked “Gazeta Vibortsa” prepared such a text and did not know about the text prepared by Marcin Ketski.
