– Everyone knows that I am terminally ill and everyone thinks that it is cancer. And so it is in reality. But I must fight as long as possible. The best case scenario suggests that it will be about a year, the worst case scenario is that it will be shorter. I don't think the doctors taking care of me will be able to make a clear diagnosis, Eriksson said on Swedish Radio.

The 75-year-old led England to the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, losing in the quarter-finals on both occasions. During his almost 40-year coaching career, he also worked with the national teams of Mexico, Ivory Coast and the Philippines, as well as with clubs such as Benfica Lisbon, AS Roma, Lazio Roma, Manchester City or Chinese teams.
In February of last year, Eriksson left the Swedish club Karlstad due to health reasons.
