“Green Border” will be available in cinemas from September 2023. The film sparked a heated discussion a few weeks before its release. There were accusations of its anti-Polish and anti-state tone, primarily because of how it portrayed border guards. The film also includes direct criticism of specific politicians of the current government.
Green Frontier was seen in theaters by 137,435 viewers during its opening weekend. This puts the film in first place when it comes to the results of the Polish production opening in 2023.
Agnieszka Holland's controversial film stirred emotions
“Green Border” is a drama inspired by the events on the Polish-Belarusian border.. The film was criticized by former rulers who claimed that it contained no truth but only Russian propaganda. The image of Holland was also badly evaluated in TVP's “Wiadomości” and other public media programs.
– My film is an honest film of a true patriot. I mean, I did it for the love of Poland. And with the feeling that our country has different faces. But the face I am proud of and most of my fellow citizens are proud of is the face we saw on the Polish-Ukrainian border at the end of February 2022. Simply put, we Poles can afford humanism, we can. To acquire humanity, we can stand in solidarity, to empathize, to empathize, to share the resources we have. And this is Poland for me, said director Agnieszka Holland in the TVN24 program “Kropka nad i”.
“Green Border” on TVP VOD. The announcement was made by Polish television
Now Telewizja Polska has announced that “Green Border” has been added to TVP's streaming offering. The press release mentions that the film was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.
“A story about how each of us can suddenly find ourselves in a borderline situation and be forced to choose between good and evil,” reads a TVP press release.
“This story is fictional, but the script of the film was based on real events that are happening around us. The preparation of the film involved hundreds of hours of document analysis, interviews with refugees, border guards, border guards, activists and experts. Boringly topical “Green Border” “This is a movie that deals with an important topic. Cinema, which opens your eyes, goes straight to the heart and leaves no one indifferent,” they write.
