In previous seasons, competitions in Wisła were held in November to celebrate the inauguration of the World Cup. Due to the lack of winter weather, the competition had a hybrid form, that is, the jumpers walked on artificial ice tracks, but landed on plastic mats. Now the competition will be held in typical winter conditions, and the hosts of the facility assured a few days ago that 100 percent of the required snow is ready.
Qualification for Sunday's individual competition will be held on Friday. 62 players from 17 countries will participate. 14 duets are scheduled for Saturday.
In the Beskids, the overall top ten of the general classification of the World Cup, Stefan Kraft, Andreas Wellinger and Ryoyu Kobayashi are expected. Only Daniel Chofenig will be missing from the “20th” series, who will be replaced by 17-year-old Stefan Embacher in the Austrian national team.
The jumpers will compete in Wisla Malinka for the first time after the reconstruction of the building. Malis has never participated in the highest level winter competitions on his “home” hill. In 2013, the first competition of the World Championship was held here, which Norwegian Anders Bardal won.
In 2017, Kamil Stoch won twice, and David Kubaki repeated it last season. In total, the Poles stood on the podium seven times, as Stoch was in the top three five times.
The next stages of the Polish tournament will be Szczecin and Zakopane. The team classification of this mini-cycle includes the scores of the two best representatives of the country in all qualifications and individual competitions, as well as the total points achieved by the teams in duet and team competitions. The best national team will receive a special financial prize – 50,000 euros.
