Former CBA chiefs Mariusz Kaminski and Mackie Vesic stayed on Tuesday. They were arrested in the presidential palace, where they stayed at the invitation of President Andrzej Duda. In the morning of the same day, the police received an order from the court to arrest them.

The Prosecutor's Office is starting an investigation

After Kaminski and Vesic were arrested, law and justice politicians referred to them as “the first political prisoners in Poland since 1989”. On the other hand, representatives of the ruling coalition claim that “everyone is equal before the law” and the police only followed the court's order.

On Friday, the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office started an investigation into the fact that the police and State Security Service employees exceeded their authority in relation to the actions taken during the arrest of the President in the palace.

Detention in the presidential palace

As “Rzeczpospolita” reported on Friday, during a police operation near the presidential administration The SOP leadership showed loyalty to the new government. “Employees of the State Security Service helped the police in arresting PiS MPs – their former bosses” – we read.

The newspaper found that Kaminski and Vesik would not have been detained without the consent of the deputy head of the SOP, Lt. Col. Bartlomiej Hebda, who is responsible for the security activities carried out by the service.

According to the information of “RZ”, with his consent, 14 policemen from the BBN side entered the presidential palace and detained the politicians in prison.

The case of Wąsik and Kaminski

In December 2023, Mariusz Kaminski and Mackie Vesik They were sentenced to the final judgment Up to two years in prison for the so-called land scandal, despite the fact that in 2015 President Andrzej Duda used the amnesty law against them (after an indefinite sentence).

On Tuesday evening, PiS politicians were detained by the police at the presidential palace, where they were at the invitation of the head of state. The former ministers were first taken to the police station in St. Grenadiers, and then in Grokhov's advance division. On Wednesday, they were transferred to other prisons, Kaminski prison in Radom and Vesik in the town of Przytuli Stare near Ostrolenka. Both politicians started hunger strike.

The president also said that he has directed the Minister of Justice and Attorney General Adam Bodnar to release the former CBA executives pending the conclusion of the trial.
