Batman vs Predator? It was good in the 90s. Now the Dark Knight and the Justice League must fight Godzilla and Kong. What other famous character duels can you see on the pages of comics?

In September 2023, comic book fans Marvel They were given the opportunity to learn the history of the duel between two of the most famous hunters with blades attached to their hands – Wolverine and the Predator.

“I will not say that I was born to write this crossover… But sometimes the world is what tells us why we came to this world. I am a child of the 80s. “I don't know how many times I've watched Predator, just like I can't tell you how many Wolverine comics I've read, because that's telling how many times I've breathed in my life or how many I've inhaled. I ate cheeseburgers,” he said at the time. Benjamin PercyComic script writer.

Does this combination of two worlds – mutants and space bounty hunters – surprise anyone else? I dont think so. We live in a time of reinvention and merging of universes, thanks to the rights of characters repeatedly falling into Disney's hands.

It should be remembered that the duel between these two legendary characters is the result of Disney's purchase of 21st Century Fox (which owned the rights to “Predator”). 2019 year. The premiere of The Predator comics was held at Marvel… 2022 year.

More importantly, though, these types of duels between famous characters with their own franchises are nothing new in comics. And not only in comics!

It should be noted that the game was released on the market in 1993-94 “RoboCop vs. Terminator”in which the player played the title character of the film Paul VerhoevenFacing the cybernetic killers of the future.

It is interesting that in 1992 a comic of the same name was created, which represented an alternative version of the system's creation. SkynetThat is, the one who will try to eliminate humanity in the future.

In the comics, the construction of RoboCop was supposed to be the AI's first step towards gaining self-awareness and later taking over the world.

He was the screenwriter of the story Frank Millerwho also came up with the plots for the two RoboCop cinematic sequels, later creating the acclaimed “Sin City”.

Without giving away too much about who won this duel, I'll just write what the reader got, including: lots of “Robocop” big fights with terminators and Reset/reset timelines. Sound confusing? As always when it comes to time travel.

The duel is much easier… Batman And the predator mentioned earlier. Their clash took place in the comic pages in 1991 and is – in my opinion – one of the best comic book crossovers (that is, not robbing the fans of their money) in the history of the medium.

It seems I'm not the only one who thinks so as a publisher DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics (Which then held true for the characters “alien”, “predator”and also “The Case” by John Carpenter.) combined in the future to give readers two sequels to Batman's Predator-fighting adventures—each one worse than the last.

Interestingly, over the years you can find a fan film on the Internet (at a fairly good level) in which the audience can see a duel between Batman, Predator… and aliens.

As we mentioned before about the aliens, let's not forget that these careless, acid-blooded monsters have already had the opportunity to haunt, including Mega City One, the hometown of Judge Dredd.

At other times one of them face clamps Once infected with the germ of an alien life form Superman (which is also technically an alien life form).

Of course, one might ask, why do we need all these crossovers? Isn't it better to focus on the solid stories of specific characters in their world? This person probably doesn't know how it works Capitalism.

The goal of these crossovers is, of course, to maximize the attention of fans of franchises that meet in comics, games or – as has been the case in recent years – movies and TV series.

The result of such duels is usually the same known from the beginning – Especially if there is a known antagonist on one side of the conflict (as in the case of aliens or terminators, who never will be, unlike Superman and Wolverine). Moreover, it is about everything that happens in the story itself – not about its ending.

Of course, it happens here too Gems of the storysuch as the first mentioned Duel of Batman and Predator. As an interesting fact, I would like to add that the comics were published in the first half of the 1990s also in Poland, by a publishing house that no longer exists. TM-Semitic.

Each of the examples mentioned is quite old, but if you think that the “fad” of crossovers is a thing of the past, let me inform you that it turns out quite well.

A year ago, the publishing house Egmont Polska presented a story in which the Dark Knight of Gotham City meets… Turtle Ninjas (which reminds us that such “meetings” of brands do not always have to end in life-death duels).

However, at the end of 2023, the story went on sale (not in Polish yet)… “Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong” – which is probably aimed at increasing interest in the upcoming prime minister “Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire”.

Does Batman vs. Godzilla sound absurd when the almighty Superman is flying? of course! Does that make more sense? Well, that depends on whether the Dark Knight has his cave big enough “mechatoper”with which he could defeat the atomic lizard.
