It happened on Monday at 11:00 Meeting of the President and the Prime Minister. The most important topic was the issue of war and security in Ukraine. Andrzej Duda and Donald Tusk also spoke, including about the case of Maciej Wąsik and Mariush Kamiński in prison.
At the press conference held after the meeting, the president said that the conversation started with the topics that were “happening here in Poland”.
– We also talked about external security. I spoke to the Prime Minister about my meeting with the prosecutors and the actions of Minister Bodnar, he said.
Duda: Bodnar should withdraw from the path of illegality
The President noted that the authorities did not consult with him regarding his actions regarding the changes in the Prosecutor's Office. – I did not express a written position on this matter, therefore there were no changes. For that to happen, there must be a written consultation, he said.
Andrzej Duda added that he appealed to the Prime Minister to restore the rule of law. – The procedures on this issue are clearly described in the act, therefore it is beyond doubt that the law was violated and there can be no talk of effective removal from the position of the national prosecutor. What we are observing is frivolous and causing chaos in the country – he noted.
– Prosecutor Bodnar should withdraw from the path of illegality. And I told the Prime Minister that I expect the protection of the law and our competences. My position is absolutely clear. Please stop trying to break the law and all actions taken so far are ineffective, he emphasized.
The President said that Minister Bodnar “He must stop these pathetic actions.”
“Kaminski and Vesik are MPs”
The president also raised the issue of Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Vasik. – The fact that, gentlemen, you have a mandate as a deputy, this was not the matter of any minister, but of the voters, and we must respect the will of the people, – he said.
Andrzej Duda emphasized that there is a legal dispute on this issue. – It is not finished yet, because the trial is ongoing. That is why I have asked both men to return home while this process continues.
