On Tuesday, the Sejm is expected to appoint an investigative committee to investigate the legality, regularity and expediency of using the Pegasus software for operational and intelligence activities.
Composition of the investigative commission
The proposal to be voted on suggests that the committee would consist of 11 parliamentarians.
According to the information obtained by “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”, the civil coalition will present the candidacies of Joanna Klusik-Rostkowska, Witold Zembachinski and Marcin Bosacki. The latter should be the chairman of the board. In the previous period, Bosak discussed this issue in the Senate. However, the Senate committee did not have the powers of an investigative committee.
As for the coalition partners of the Civic Platform, the Left is going to nominate Tomasz Trella, Poland 2050 – Pawel Schlierz, and the Polish People's Party – Magdalena Sroka, the former chairman of the agreement (after the resignation of Jarosław Gowin). (The former vice-prime minister took the positions last week Before the Investigative Commission of Envelope Elections).
After moving to the opposition, the confederation will appoint Przemysław Wipler to the committee – the parliamentarian announced this in December. However, it is not known who will sit in the commission on behalf of the biggest opposition club, Law and Justice.
Law and Justice denies the allegations in this case. During the parliamentary debate on the project, the politicians of the group noted that we are dealing with political fraud and actions harmful to the country.
The Pegasus Case. What will the committee consider?
As Dziennik Gazeta Prawna recalls, “according to the draft decree establishing the commission, it should conduct a thorough investigation into the acquisition and use of the Pegasus software, as well as other operational and investigative tools. It will examine the legality, correctness and purposefulness of these activities, focusing on the decisions made by the members of the Council of Ministers, including the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General, as well as the Prosecutor's Office and other law enforcement agencies. The Commission will try to establish the identity. Those responsible for the acquisition of these tools analyze the use of operational and intelligence actions against Polish citizens and examine cases of potential violations of civil rights and abuse of power in this context, covering activities from 2015 to 2023.
