Osaka and Korpac have never had the chance to compete with each other before. The match in Australia will be the first direct confrontation between the Japanese and the Germans.
The 26-year-old, who gave birth to her first child, daughter Shai, in July, has not played since September 2022. The Brisbane tournament (December 31 – January 7) should be a good test for him before next year's first Grand Slam event – the Australian Open.
His last Grand Slam triumph came at the 2021 Australian Open. It was his second title after winning at Melbourne Park in 2019 and he also won the US Open in the 2018 and 2020 seasons.
