Prosecutor Alexander Herzog – biography

From “Encyclopedia of Solidarity” we can learn that Alexander Herzog was born on July 10, 1951 in Krakow. He was a law graduate of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

Before that, in March 1968, he participated in student rallies in Krakow. He was arrested for distributing leaflets and expelled from the 4th secondary school. From 1968, he studied at XIII high school, where he passed the high school graduation exam a year later.

After graduating from school, in 1974 he became an assessor of the Krakow District Prosecutor's Office, and in 1976-1981, a deputy prosecutor. Then he took the position of Deputy Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor's Office of the Nowa Huta District in Krakow.





Since September 1980 Worked in “Solidarity”. He organized, among others: trade union structures in the Krakow Provincial Prosecutor's Office. In December 1981, he was fired.

After the change of government in the 1990s, he was still a prosecutor. In 1993-2000, he was assigned to assist the Deputy Prosecutor General, Stefan Schniezka, in the direct implementation of activities related to the Katyn massacre.

Later, among others, the First Deputy Prosecutor General Alexander Bentkowski in the government of Tadeusz Mazowiecki. He was also the author of books and about 60 articles in journals devoted to legal issues.





Awarded the Cross of the Officer of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2011) and the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity (2018). He did not receive this second distinction. This was already during the term of office of President Andrzej Duda.
