Anders Breivik He is the author of the explosion in the Oslo government district and the shooting on the island of Utoya, during which 77 people died. The events took place in 2011. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison – the maximum sentence under Norwegian law. The 44-year-old is currently in prison in Ringerike, Norway – about 70 kilometers from Oslo. This is the third prison where he has been placed.

According to Reuters, Breivik, dressed in a black suit, white shirt and brown tie, said nothing or gestured as he entered the first hearing. It happened in his prison gymnasium.
After 44 years, he sat in silence while his lawyer told a judge that the isolation had driven Breivik into a “deep depression”. The inmate is scheduled to speak on Tuesday.

Lawyers for the Ministry of Justice say that Breivik should be kept away from the rest of the prisoners because of the continuing security risk, Reuters reports.

AFP quoted lawyer Andreas Hetland as arguing that Breivik “enjoys a wide range of activities such as cooking, walking, playing basketball” and “there is no indication that he suffers from physical or mental problems due to prison conditions.”

The 44-year-old is suing the Norwegian state once again. In 2016, the Oslo District Court found Breivik's isolation a violation of human rights. However, after an appeal, the superior court sided with the state.
In 2018, the European Court of Human Rights rejected a complaint against Norway.
