The history of Krakow New Year's meetings was born by chance – in 1923 or 1924, when several players decided to end the New Year's Eve with a football game in the stadium. Since then, New Year's Day afternoon matches have become a carefully cultivated tradition.

1. This was not Robert Lewandowski's year

The guest of honor at this year's training was Zygmunt Konieczny, a well-known composer of literary songs, theater and film music, who has been associated with “Piwnica pod Baranami” for many years. He received a club shirt and a white and red scarf from Krakow president Elżbieta Filipiak.

“It was a difficult year for me personally and for the club,” recalled the head of the club with his wife, Prof. Janusz Filipiak, who has been the owner and president of the Krakow club for the past 20 years.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions – heavy rain and snow – 3163 spectators appeared in the stands to watch an interesting and exciting match. The first team was missing foreign players who are still on vacation. The second team was mainly composed of Central Junior League players.

“It's a wonderful tradition. The match was fun. There were jokes, funny and serious football. The main thing is that everyone left the field healthy. Everyone got oxygen and now they have six more days to rest and we're starting to prepare,” said coach Jacek Zielinski, who added that the club He is working on transfers and hopes that two new players will join the team soon.

Krakow will continue preparations for the spring tour at the training center in Rechna from January 8, and five days later the players will fly to the camp in Belek, Turkey, where they will stay for two weeks. Three sparring matches are planned with Debreceni VSC, Sturm Graz and Zorya Luhansk.

Zielinski admitted that another test match could be played in Turkey. The last test before the resumption of top league games will be a double sparring with FK Zeleziarne Podbrezova and Wiślany Jaśkovice.

After 19 rounds, Krakow is in 13th place in the Premier League table. In the first league match of 2023, it will face Radomiac Radom at its own stadium on February 10.
