A seemingly innocent joke caused a storm in the American tennis community. It all started with a chart showing players from the United States seeded for the Australian Open. Corey Goff responded to the post, and then the avalanche began.

Shortly before the start of the Australian Open, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) released a graphic on social media showing the American tennis players who are seeded for this Grand Slam tournament. His cartoon style was based on the popular TV series “Wild Thornberrys”.

Corey Goff responded to the post via Instagram. He posted a photo of the graph on his story and added some comments – very critical.

“This is the worst thing I've ever seen. The author screwed us up, we look terrible. Also, the cartoon style is cool for an animated series, but not for a post-commercial. I think I'd rather draw it in Bratz style. We all look terrible,” he wrote. Goofy.

Fans immediately began discussing the schedule. There was no lack of either supporters or opponents. The US Tennis Association decided to finally remove the record. Criticism of the 19-year-old Gauff caused a real storm, and the player clearly felt the response. The tennis player explained that from the beginning it was just… a joke.

“People thought I was serious, that I was crazy about graphics, but I wasn't. Sitting in the hotel room, I was browsing the Internet out of boredom, and at one point I came across this photo. I saw the reaction of people making fun of how ugly it was. We are similar, so I decided to join them. However, my statement was not well received and it was just a joke,” Gauff explained.

Gauff won the first round of the Australian Open against Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova. In your next match, face Carolyn Dolehide.
