World number one Iga Svichtek maintained a 975-point lead over No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus ahead of the start of the Grand Slam Australian Open. Latvian Jelena Ostapenko returned to the top ten after more than five years.
Most of the WTA ranking leaders did not play last week and focused on final preparations for the first Grand Slam event of the season, so there were no significant changes in the rankings.

After winning the tournament in Adelaide, Ostapenko, who was last ranked in the top ten in September 2018, moved from 12th to 10th.
Schwichtek is expected to retain his position at the top of the rankings after the Australian Open, as the Belarussian will defend 2,000 points in Melbourne, while the Pole has just 240.
Magda Lynette maintained her 24th position, while Magdalena French advanced from 72nd to 69th.
