“He went abroad and could not tell my mother that he had another woman and that he needed a divorce, he only wrote me a letter saying that I will have a brother or sister and I should talk to my mother. I was 12 years old. My mother told me about it, she had heard about it from my father's parents before. I was arranging the books, my mother went downstairs to call my grandparents on the phone, came back, closed the door, leaned on it. “He fell to the ground and said: Kasia, father is leaving us,” Kaya said.
“I was playing tough girl in front of my mom, I said, 'Yeah? That's great,” and I started thinking about how to go because I felt like I was going to explode. I asked my mom if I could go. My friend who lived two floors up. And I took those two floors, for about an hour, because I was going up the stairs. And I was screaming. The biggest shame was when my mother finally came and found me in this state. Promise,” she recalled.
