Mateusz Rutkowski was the great hope of Polish ski jumpers. He was the first Pole to win the world champion title. He won it in February 2004 in Stryn, Norway. He defeated the Austrian Thomas Morgenstern, who later went on to great success in the seniors.

Silver medal and previous achievements
