Ukrainian Minister: This is our priority
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov also noted that his ministry is focusing on the purchase of Ukrainian-made weapons.
– We ordered Ukrainian-made ammunition of various calibers. In the future, we will increase the volume of such purchases, Umerov said. – Our priority is to increase the Ukrainian production of equipment needed for the army. From now on, innovations will be approved for use on the battlefield within 20 days, rather than months, as was the case previously, he added.
Battle for Crimea
“The scenarios considered for January 2022 assume that Russia will retain Crimea. However, if Ukraine liberates the peninsula along with the occupied southern lines, then the direct threat to Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa will disappear and the threat to Melitopol will decrease. Sharply,” noted the Institute for the American Study of War (ISW) In a recent analysis.
Analysts note that Mariupol remains the only major frontline city in the south, reducing the region's defense depth. The liberation of Crimea would also largely eliminate the threat of Russian amphibious operations off Ukraine's southwestern coast, as well as the threat of Russian missiles to ships attempting to cross the Black Sea.
