It was easy to talk to Janusz Majewski because he loved to talk and was a great conversationalist. I met him late, in 1998, when he was filming “Złoto dezerterów” in Krakow. By that time, he was already a legend of Polish cinema, and I was the author of the RMF FM film program “In the cinema or in the film”, visiting the set. I wasn't far because some of the photos were taken on the Kościuszko Mound, a stone's throw from my radio room.
Then we met quite often at various festivals and premieres of his films and books. I remember how he said after the premiere of the movie “After the Season” and the autobiography “Ostatni Klakla” that he is saying goodbye to writing and thinking about new films. Fortunately, he changed his mind and in the following years gave us “Mała Matura”, “Ekcentrics” and “Black Mercedes”, as well as several documentaries and TV shows. Of course, these were not works on the scale of “Zaklęte rewiry” or “Lessons in a dead language”, but “Mała Matura 1947” will find a place, in my opinion, among the ten best achievements of Majewski.
