The publishers explain that the problems related to deadlines are determined by logistics and tight deadlines at the printing houses. DGP was released in the second edition – for Mazovian Voivodeship (photo: dgp.pl)

The arrest of Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Vesic by the police was only reported by “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” in its Wednesday print edition. – It's a matter of distribution time – explained other publishers who failed to do it.

Although Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Vasik were arrested in the presidential palace on Tuesday. 20, there was not a single word about it in the print editions of the national newspapers on Wednesday. “Kaminsky and Vesik were hiding in the presidential palace,” said the front page of Super Express. “Instead of a prison, a palace,” wrote “Gazeta Wyborcza” and “Rzeczpospolita” – it says at the bottom of the first page of the diary, “Kaminski and Vesik remain in the palace.” Neither “Fakti” nor “Gazette Polska Dzien” publish information about the arrest.

Only “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” was able to do this, which published a text on the front page under the headline: “From the palace straight to the bars.” This became possible because the editors prepared two editions. The last one – with information about the arrest – was published only in the Mazovian Voivodeship.

Barbara Kaspzycka, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”: – We leave ourselves the possibility to publish the first issue earlier in hot news time and to change the second one at the last minute. And we did it yesterday.

As Aneta Kowalska, Director of Marketing and Sales Center of DGP adds, the second, more current edition was printed at the Agora printing house in Warsaw.

Other publishers explain that logistics and tight distribution deadlines were the reasons for not including information about Wasik and Kaminski's arrests in the print edition. Boguslaw Krabota, editor-in-chief of “Rzeczpospolita”: – It was too late. We finish work on the print edition around 7pm, but continued to work online. And we described everything there as we went along. This situation is another proof of paper's dysfunctionality. It only accelerates our work on digital conversion, he explains.

Jakub Zaskurski, Grammy Media Distribution Director, adds that delaying the closing date for the issue on Tuesday evening and sending “Rzeczpospolita” to the press later will not solve the problem.

– We can call the printing house and postpone the printing until 22 or 12, but this is half the success, because none of the distributors will deliver these editions later. Companies, which are fewer and fewer in Poland, start delivering newspapers at midnight, and these deadlines are tight. Distributors need time to distribute the press throughout the country, Zaskurski notes, adding that “Rzeczpospolita” is printed in three locations in Poland – the Agora printing house in Warsaw and two Polska Press factories in Bydgoszcz and Sosnowiec.

– We did not decide on the second edition – as DGP – because its scope is limited to Warsaw. However, the information was immediately published on the website of Rp.pl, which is the first and most up-to-date contact with our readers – emphasizes Zaskurski.

Agora also talks about the rigid deadlines related to the distribution of newspapers. – The last Warsaw edition of “Gazeta Wyborcza” closes at 7:30 p.m. It is difficult to move it on a given day, and the transportation of such a publication is a huge problem, because distributors are very reluctant to agree to such situations. If we have planned in advance the delay in printing and transportation of the newspaper, the last issue can be closed approx. 21 – we were told in the press office of Agora.

The editors of “Fakti” and “Super Express” did not respond to our questions regarding the Wednesday papers of their dailies.
