South Africa's famous disabled athlete Oscar Pistorius has left prison after nearly nine years and is now at home, South Africa's Department of Corrections said on Friday. The athlete was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of her fiancé.

Pistorius, 37, was granted parole in November. The court found him “a first-time offender who also met the conditions of parole.”

1. Świątek is one step away from the record. Everything will be decided on Friday

Pistorius – a runner who lost his legs as a child and became known as “the mouth runner” for his carbon-fibre prosthetics – was to serve half of a 13-year and five-month sentence for murder. At his trial, which ended in his conviction, he pleaded not guilty and maintained his innocence in the death of his girlfriend, Riva Steenkamp. During the trial, the man claimed he shot through the bathroom door of his Pretoria home because he thought he was dealing with a burglar.

The athlete, like others released on parole, will not be able to give interviews or otherwise communicate with media representatives.

“Like other parolees, Pistorius cannot give interviews to the media. He cannot consume alcohol or other prohibited substances,” the Department of Corrections said in a statement.

He will remain on probation until 2029 under South Africa's justice program. During this time, she is undergoing anger management and violence against women therapy under the supervision of the Department of Corrections. He will also be appointed a guardian who must inform the relevant authorities in the event of taking up employment or changing his place of residence, which is specified as Pretoria.

Pistorius is a multiple medalist at the Paralympic Games in Athens, Beijing and London, who has also successfully competed with able-bodied athletes.

The highlight of her career came at the 2012 London Olympics, where she reached the semifinals of the 400m and the final of the 4x400m relay, breaking barriers and facing fully fit opponents.
