The Ballon d'Or gala always causes great emotions in the football community. The results of the 2021 plebiscite caused the biggest stir in Poland when Leo Messi beat Robert Lewandowski to win the statue. Now it turns out that it could be the result of a big scam. The French police have just started an investigation.
The French newspaper “Le Monde” reports about it. As we read in the article, the police officers found the personal messages of the former director of PSG and the president of this club, where the first mentioned the need to lobby the then head of “France Football” magazine, Pascal Ferret. The point, of course, was to award the Ballon d'Or to Leo Messi (who will play in Paris in 2021), not Robert Lewandowski.

According to Le Monde, Ferre's ties with Sen's team began in 2020. During this period, the newspaper L'Equipe – which has the same owner as France Football – deleted one of its articles attacking PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaif. In addition, Ferre had to get tickets for the matches of the Parisians.
The culmination of the collaboration was Messi's victory at the 2021 Gala. The Argentine actually received the statue, becoming the first PSG player in history to do so. Lewandowski took second place. The organizers also gave him the best striker award, which has never been awarded before.
The investigation into the case continues. Police have not released information on his progress.
