Iga Schwichtek is unstoppable during the United Cup. On Sunday morning, Polish time, the leader of the world ranking won again – this time in the first final match, he defeated Angelique Kerber 6:3, 6:0 and the red-whites were in the lead. Soon after the meeting, he admitted that his opponent managed to surprise him in some ways.
Iga Svichtek beat Angelique Kerber 6:3, 6:0, but the beginning of the match was really even. The German created difficult conditions for the leader of the world ranking and was an equal opponent for him.
1. Tomáš Švičtek predicted Iga's success. “He's always had that something”
– At the beginning of the first set, I was surprised several times, he chose good places to play the ball. I didn't have much time to adapt to this style of play, so I'm glad that I felt the rhythm after a few games. “I started pushing harder and it was easier from 4:3,” Schwitek said.
The Raszin player then commented more on his excellent form during the United Cup. During this tournament, he did not lose a single match.
– I feel that I worked well in the preseason and I'm glad that now it's coming out as a really solid game. Being in a team with my Polish friends is really exciting for me. I am ready to always fight for our team, emphasized the 22-year-old player.
Finally, Świątek spoke about the 89th plebiscite of Przegląd Sportowy and Telewizja Polsat. Let me remind you – he was chosen as the best athlete of 2023.
– I am extremely proud of myself, this is the second year in a row that I have received this award. I always feel the support of the fans, but in situations like this I feel it more strongly. I will add that Hubert Hurkac was also in the top ten, so I think it is a good day for Polish tennis – concluded the tennis player.
