In group D of the preliminary stage of the European handball championship, Norway defeated the Faroe Islands in Berlin 26:26 (13:12). In Saturday's second match in this pool, Poland lost 25:32 to Slovenia, ending the evening's match in a draw and denying them any chance of advancing to the second round.
Only the victory of the Ferrers in this match increased the mathematical chances of the Polish national team exiting the group. A matchup between two Scandinavian teams could be really enjoyable. In the first half, the Norwegians gained a small advantage. After the break, the game was even and almost a goal was scored.

In the last minutes, Norwegian defender Peter Overby received a red card for a dangerous penalty. Faroese made the score 25:26. The game's equalizer was scored from the penalty spot with 4 seconds left by MVP Elias A. Skipagotou.
The Faroe Islands team is cheered on from the stands by a group of several thousand people, some sources say up to 8,000 fans (more than 10 percent of the country's population), who are not only very disciplined, but react spontaneously after every action.
