– One night we learned that we were going to be fired, no one warned us, absolutely – says one of the employees.

– Constantly running, under constant stress, because everything was always wrong. And where are our families? When we had small children, we went to work on Sundays, they cried all the time, and we cried with them. So what do we get from this? – asks the other.

– The employer can always terminate the contract, but under the conditions stipulated by the Labor Code. Some are at such an age, maybe not yet retired, but at such an age that it will be difficult to find a way in the labor market except for the knitting market – says lawyer Piotr Grzech, who helps former employees.

Most people started working in factories as teenagers, after graduating from vocational school. In the 1990s, the factory was privatized. The employees stayed. They dedicated their whole life to many shifts, hard work.

– I was not even fifteen years old when I started working here. We produce socks and thick tights for children and adults. There were times when there were five weeks in a month and we were at work all week, recalls one of the employees.

– We received scraps, there was no money for bonuses, there was nothing. They created a rat race – adds another.

Last May, the factory workers were fired without any notice. They should receive pay and rewards for years of service. This is several tens of thousands of zlotys. Unfortunately, despite winning court cases, there is still no money.

– The state apparatus used coercion for the employee to receive the remuneration that was simply due to him. When organizing a business and fulfilling its obligations as an employer, the employer must first focus on securing wages and other employee claims. The employees did not receive them, despite the long lapse of time, says lawyer Piotr Grzech, who helps former employees.

The factory was probably managed by a trustee. But this turned out to be a lie. The company is still operating, and the helpless former employees are still unable to claim the debt. They met and hoped that the president of the company would finally talk. Unfortunately, this did not happen.

– We have no one to talk to. The president, who knows that we have this meeting today, is going on vacation. It's weak on his part that he shouldn't meet us here, he can't look us straight in the eyes, says one of the employees.
