The Polish champion returned to training. Will he return to defend his title?

After a 25-day Christmas and New Year break, Rakov Czestochowa players resumed training on Friday. The Polish champions will train at their facility for a week, and on January 20 they will fly to the training camp in Turkey, where they will hold four sparring matches.

During the first classes, coach David Schwarga had 26 players at his disposal, including four goalkeepers. Only in Turkey will the 2021/22 Premier League top scorer Yvi Lopez, who tore his cruciate ligaments at the start of preparations for the current competition last June, join the team. However, Giannis Papanicolaou, Ben Lederman and Milan Rundic have not yet fully recovered from their surgeries and are undergoing recovery or rehabilitation.

1. He was supposed to become an extra-class star. He disappeared and there was no contact with him

However, two other convalescents are training normally – Adrian Grishkiewicz and Daniel Selegowski. On the other hand, team captain Zoran Arsenic and Kamil Pestka are still feeling the effects of last year's injuries and are training with a lighter load, but they are the first to participate in the training camp, from which they are scheduled to return on February 3. That is, one week before the start of this year's part of the season. Rakov will inaugurate it in Grodzisk Wilkopolsk, where on February 11 it will be hosted by Poznań Varta.

After 18 games played, the Red-Blues have 32 points and are fourth in the table, nine points behind league leaders Slask Wrocław, who are tied for second and third along with Jagiellonia Bialystok and Lech Poznan. One match more than the residents of Czestochowa. Rakov, who played 35 matches this season (in Ekstraklasa, Polish Cup, Champions League qualifying stage and Europa League), has an away match against Korona Kielce (2nd round).
