The first place of the visit of the new management of the Ministry of Climate and Environmental Protection was Białowieża National Park. The head of the ministry, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, and the deputy minister, Mikolaj Dorozhala, discussed the future on January 4 and 5, 2024 in Białowieża. Białowieża Forest with local communities, scientists, non-governmental organizations, foresters and local authorities.
During the visit, Dorožala met with representatives of the World Heritage Site “Białowieża Forest”, the Białowieża National Park, the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Białystok, and the Białowieża, Browski and Hynowka Forest Districts.
Representatives of the Ministry also participated in meetings with representatives of local self-government units, scientists and non-governmental organizations. The topics of the meetings were: Cooperation for Białowieża Forest. The meetings were also attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Mackay Živno and the Voivode of Podlasie Jacek Brzozowski.

Hennig-Kloska: A constitution will be created for the Białowieża Forest
– We are ending the era when strategic decisions regarding the natural environment in Poland are made behind the table in Warsaw. We came to Białowieża National Park to show a new style of work and decision-making, Hennig-Kloska said.
– When making important decisions, we will listen to the voices of local communities, scientists, non-governmental organizations, foresters and local government representatives. Such strategic decisions are needed, including: Białowieża Forest, he added.
The minister also announced the preparation of a strategic document. – We want to develop a common, unified voice. Currently, work is underway on important documents and there is only one conclusion: we need a forest constitution and we want to prepare such a document, he emphasized.

UNESCO Coordinator
Dorožala announced the first public and open competition for UNESCO coordinator for Białowieża. – We will work together to protect the heritage that is a symbol of Poland in the world. We will organize an open competition for the post of UNESCO Cooperation Coordinator for Białowieża Forest. This person will be responsible for both international relations and the local aspect, said the Deputy Minister of Climate.
