Two 15-year-old boys wanted to save a dog that was struggling to survive in icy water. Ignoring the warning, they entered the lake. Unfortunately, the ice broke under their weight and the boys fell into the water. Fortunately, they made it ashore under their own power.
A dangerous incident took place on Wednesday on the frozen lake of Miedzirzets (Lubus Voivodeship).
– Two 15-year-old boys took a big risk in a dramatic situation. Their heroic but potentially tragic decision prompted emergency services to intervene, said Junior Asp. Mateusz Maksimczyk from the district police headquarters in Miedzyrzecz.

Seeing a dog struggling to survive in the icy water, the boys decided to act on their own. Ignoring all warnings, they made a desperate attempt to escape and entered the lake.
“Unfortunately, the result of their spontaneous decision was the collapse of the ice, which plunged them directly into the icy water,” said the policeman.

Fortunately, one of the boys found himself in a place where the water reached his knees. The 15-year-old was able to pull out his friend. After going ashore, the two decided to alert the services.
Police urge caution
Arriving at the scene, the police took care of the frozen teenagers and handed them over to their parents.
– Although the end was happy and all participants of the incident escaped without serious injuries, this story should be a warning against similar actions – addressed the junior Asp. Mateusz Maksimczyk.
