One of the first decisions of Shimon Holounya after being elected Speaker of the Seimas was to remove the barriers placed in front of the Parliament building. On Thursday morning, the Sejm was closed again.
Barriers are back in front of the Seimas. Holonia: They have to leave by 5 o'clock tomorrow morning
During the meeting, Holonia was asked about the return of barriers Boleslaw Limanowski with the students of the 1st secondary school in Warsaw, within the framework of the “civic lesson”. – The barriers were back at 5am today. According to him, they will leave by 5 o'clock tomorrow morning.
– This is something that, of course, I would not like to see in front of the Sejm, but we applied to the police and they clearly asked us for this and made us understand that this is a matter of officers' health, life, and safety. and protesters – Marshall explained, referring to the rally organized by PIS.
– We had a plan and demanded that only officers stand there in the cordon, man to man. But the Warsaw police headquarters was very firm in its position that at this time it might endanger the health and life of the officers, and I will not agree to endanger the life or health of anyone, even now someone from PiS or elsewhere. The party shouts that Holonia will return again, he said barriers.
“When they're needed, they'll be there. And when they're not needed, they won't be.”
– Yes, I agreed to install them. This is a police decision. However, as I said, they will leave by tomorrow morning, he repeated, adding that since 2016, barriers have been standing in front of the Seimas “every day”. – It was complete absurdity, it should be dismantled. However, in situations of order and demonstration, when these barriers are needed, they will be there. And when it is not needed, they will not be there anymore – announced Marshall.
– This is wisdom and pragmatism. If anyone has a problem with that, that's their problem, not mine. I want there to be as few victims as possible, so that people – even emotional ones – do not hurt anyone. In this regard, I trust the specialists. (…) The last thing we want is any controversy. There are demonstrations and I hope there will be, because this is a free country and everyone can demonstrate, but we have to do everything so that no one gets hurt, Holovnya claims.
