The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs brags that he did not shake hands with the Russian envoy, the prime minister fights for Ukraine's EU membership, the foreign minister directly threatens Putin, the chairman of the foreign relations committee talks about the breakup of Russia. If someone fell into a coma and did not know that there was a change of power and it was Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski, Donald Tusk, Radosław Sikorski and Pavel Koval, he could shoot in the dark that we are still talking about the PiS government. .
Much has changed in Polish politics in recent weeks, but the reckless attitude to the war in Ukraine remains the same. It is reckless, because the new government, like the previous government, limits itself to lofty words and gestures, but at the same time avoids clear and transparent statements. The fact that Poland wants to help its attacked neighbor has been obvious for two years now. But what is the strategy of our government? What exactly does Donald Tusk's government want to do and achieve? What do we expect from Ukraine and what do we offer it? Why and for how long? We have no answer to any of these questions. In the emotional frenzy and rhetorical gallop characteristic of Polish politics, our elites have decided that since we support Ukraine under attack, it is not enough to support Kiev, but we must respond to its every call.
The new government supports, for example, the accession of Ukraine to the European Union, even trying to make itself a kind of “advocate” (sic!) of such accession, but neither Donald Tusk, nor Radoslav Sikorsky, nor anyone else in the government. Explains exactly how Poland will benefit from such a solution. EU enlargement into Ukraine was a priori seen as identical to Poland's raison d'être, but doubts about such a move are very real. Instead of a credible, honest discussion about the pros and cons of the planned enlargement of the EU, we get a moral high ground. Exactly the same as under Mateusz Morawiecki.
